A breast lift, or mastopexy, reshapes and raises breasts that have lost firmness through time, weight change, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Mr Debashis Ghosh removes excess skin and repositions the breast tissue and nipple to a higher, firmer position, without necessarily changing size.

What is a breast lift?
- Definition
- A mastopexy lifts and reshapes the breast by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The nipple is repositioned to a natural height. It treats sagging (ptosis) without removing significant volume, and can be combined with augmentation or reduction.

Recovery and considerations
A support bra is worn for several weeks. Most people return to desk work in one to two weeks and to full exercise at around six weeks. Risks include scarring, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry and, rarely, healing problems. Scars are permanent but usually fade.

Frequently asked questions
Will a lift change my breast size?
A lift reshapes and raises the breast without significantly changing size. If you also want more volume, it can be combined with an implant or fat transfer; if you want less, with a reduction.
Where are the scars?
Scar pattern depends on the degree of lift — from around the areola alone to a "lollipop" or anchor shape. Scars fade over time but are permanent. Mr Ghosh explains what to expect.
Can I breastfeed afterwards?
Many women can, but it cannot be guaranteed. The technique is planned to preserve function where possible.
How long do results last?
Results are long-lasting, but ageing, gravity, weight change and pregnancy continue over time. A healthy stable weight helps maintain the result.
